Minimum class size: 2 people, Maximum class size: 6 people


Audience: New owners or those thinking about keeping chickens

- The course will take place in my garden under cover (bring a jumper, it may be chilly)

- Tea, coffee and homemade cake will be included in the cost

- At the end of the course, there is an optional visit to my Hen Hotel (3 mins drive away)

     you will be able to see a variety of different breeds (it isn't muddy at either location)

- There is wheelchair access to the course

- The course is not dog friendly

- Accompanied children must be over 12 years


The course will cover:


  • Your current situation, space needed etc.

  • Choosing housing - viewing a plastic 'Omlet Go-Up' and wooden housing

  • Foxes and other predators

  • Choosing chickens - different breeds

  • Feeling comfortable handling chickens and transportation

  • Care of poultry, housing and run - daily, monthly weekly and yearly

  • Settling in new chickens

  • Feeding, watering, equipment and treats

  • Behaviour - pecking order, broodiness and eggs

  • Health - moulting, common diseases and parasites


There will be notes available and plenty of opportunities to ask me questions and discuss other areas of interest.
